The Viseenses UK Group will host an institutional meeting in London on Friday, 6 March 2026, bringing together three mayors from the district of Viseu, in an initiative that aims to strengthen ties between the Portuguese diaspora in the United Kingdom and the Viseu region.
The event will be attended by João Azevedo, Mayor of Viseu, Marco Almeida, Mayor of Mangualde, and Paulo Marques, Mayor of Vila Nova de Paiva. The mayors’ visit is part of a strategy to build closer ties with emigrant communities and to enhance the role of the diaspora in regional development.
The initiative is organised by a group of four professionals from the district of Viseu who live in the United Kingdom — a photographer, a doctor, an IT technician and a restaurateur — who founded the Grupo Viseenses UK with the aim of strengthening the link between Viseu and the emigrant community.
In addition to local authorities, the meeting will be attended by representatives of the Portuguese Consulate and Embassy in London, as well as businesspeople, associations and other entities linked to the Portuguese community in the United Kingdom.
According to the organisers, the meeting aims to create a platform for direct dialogue between local authorities and emigrants from Viseu, promoting cultural exchange, the preservation of traditions and the strengthening of local identity outside Portugal.
The event also has an economic dimension, seeking to encourage the establishment of business partnerships, identify investment opportunities and foster cooperation projects that can contribute to the development of the district of Viseu, taking advantage of the experience and international network of the diaspora.
